Figured Walnut Knife Scales -- Bookmatched Knife Scales

Figured walnut knife scales, cut to size and bookmatched, 2"x6" and 1/4" or 3/8" thick. Figured walnut has a beautiful luster when finished, giving a warm golden glow that enhances the rich browns of the wood. It's a prized piece to find, even with the normally 'rustic' grade of lumber we work with.

When we find a piece of walnut that has great figure, we'll pull it aside and cut the figured portion out - this lets us go on to further machine it to size through our saws and drum sanders. Figured walnut has a tendency to rip and pull out thanks to the irregular wood grain which gives it that distinct look, so it can be a very delicate process. While machining we do leave a little bit more stock than advertised - for example, you'll likely get closer to a .39 inch thick knife scale when purchasing a 3/8" (.375") knife scale. This gives you some wiggle room when sanding down the scale.

We absolutely want you to be happy with your purchase, and so before we send the scales out you'll get a photo of them to verify that they're what you want. This way you know what to expect. If you're looking for a piece that is a little larger please reach out.
