Solid Walnut Wood Plates

Hollowed and smoothed walnut wooden plates - simple, elegant, and useful. Each plate is unique, and the color and grain can vary widely between plates. We try to pick the most interesting boards to cut that have the best figuring so that each walnut plate is its own work of art. Walnut is a great wood for food contact - it doesn't readily accept stains, and has very tight pores making it resistant to absorption of liquid.

The wood plates are machine cut right in our shop, and sanded and finished by hand by lathe. Any knots or cracks get filled and add to the character of the plate (if you are interested, we can fill imperfections with colored epoxy too, giving them a splash of color). Larger sizes and matching bowls available upon request.

These plates are hand wash only. The finish is a simple combination of shellac and boiled linseed oil - other finishes available upon request. Upkeep is fairly simple - use a little cutting board wax occasionally to help seal up the plate. Should it become very scratched up you can reach out to us for detailed instruction on how to reapply a new coat of finish.
